Esma DEBENHAM Obituary

On April 2, 2025, peacefully at Christchurch Hospital with her loving family, aged 98 years. Dearly loved wife of Bernard (deceased), dearly loved and cherished Mother and Mother-in-law of Anne and Bill McKay, Joy and Kevin O'Connell, Murray and Susannah, Bede and Narelle and loved Grandma of her 15 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

May she rest in peace.

Special thanks to Marjorie and her Team at Anthony Wilding Rest Home for their compassionate care of Esma during the last 2 years. Messages to the Debenham family, c/- PO Box 111-01, Sockburn, Christchurch. The Requiem Mass for Esma will be celebrated at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church, Main South Road, Sockburn, Wednesday, April 9, at 11.00am, interment thereafter in the Avonhead Park Cemetery, Hawthornden Road. Rosary at the Church Tuesday, April 8, at 7.00pm.

Esma sat at the same dining table as our Mum Heather at Anthony Wilding Rest home.
Esma was wonderful to Mum and would assist as best she could.
Mum's mind was such that she could not remember Esma's name & yet with Esma being a bit deaf, often thought Mum had got it correct.
When I told Mum that it was Esma's birthday and that Esma was now 98; (Esma had told Mum at their midday meal, but Mum had forgotten) Mum was quite surprised, "older than me" said Mum.
No Mum you are older.
It was lovely I did get to see you once after Mum moved to Hospital Care, as that was a special time for us both.
You will be sadly missed.

I was Esma home help for sometime in Craven st.
Gone to be with her Bernard.
