Elly RAVN Obituary

I met Elly at the Gandal Girls Choir Concert held in Christchurch in 1980. Standing in the foyer at Girls High, she approached me asking in Danish where the choir concert was located and wanted to meet other local Danes. I passed her on to the group of local Danish women that I was with and she decided to join our group. We learned that she had just recently moved to Christchurch from the North Island. She said that she often came to Christchurch to visit with her sons and had decided to move here to be closer.
From then on, we would see each other once a month at a Danish Ladies Group which was held in turn at each of the ladies´ homes. There we would catch up and discuss all the news from Denmark.
I remember going to her home when it was her turn. Her hospitality of baking and coffee table was amazing! Her house was decorated so beautifully. She set the table with Danish silver and porcelain. Also, the garden had the Danish hygge.
During our time at her house, we would look through Danish magazines she had brought back from her trips to Denmark during her regular holidays. She was very good at keeping us up to date with what was happening in Denmark. This time was so precious to all of us. She will be dearly missed.
