Sister Ellen: RSM
On Monday, February 7, 2022, at Nazareth House, Christchurch, supported by her Mercy community, family and staff. Aged 99 years. Dearly loved member of Nga Whaea Atawhai o Aotearoa Sisters of Mercy New Zealand, in the 63rd year of her Religious Profession. Dearly loved daughter of the late Letitia and William, much loved sister and sister-in-law of Patrick and Ivy Duffy, Kathleen and Ray James, Tom and Kit Duffy, Phil and Erin Duffy, Letitia and Ron Peters, Sister Lucy Duffy RSM, and Sheila and Arthur Fauth (all deceased). A loved aunt and great-aunt of her nieces and nephews. Special thanks to staff of Nazareth House and Mercy carers. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory's Church, 26 Cotswold Ave, Bishopdale, Christchurch, Tomorrow (Friday) at 1.30pm, followed by interment at Waimairi Cemetery, Grahams Road. Vigil Prayers at Te Manawa Atawhai Catherine McAuley Centre, 21 Peer Street, Upper Riccarton, This Day (Thursday), at 7.00pm. Loving sympathy and prayer for all Ellen´s Mercy family, and her extended Duffy family. I only met Ellen during her time at Nazareth and will always remember her gracious positive nature and that warm smile. I always enjoyed listening to stories of her remarkable life. God bless you all and give to Ellen the fullness of Eternal Life.

Ellen was a younger sister of my late Grandfather, Patrick William Duffy. I only met Ellen a handful of times in my life but I was always impressed by what a loving, kind and caring person she was. She was genuinely interested in other people, and really demostrated the fruits of the spirit in all she did. When my first son was born in 2006, she made a special effort to visit our family in the North Island. She was truly a wonderful woman, who really left her mark, and will be greatly missed.
