Mrs Pickles was my Standard 1 teacher in 1975. I remember groups of us walking to her house in the morning before school, to walk back with her. I ran away from school one day because she said she wouldn't let me go swimming(think I was doing something I shouldn't) Dad returned me an hour later to my disgust. Mrs pickles wasn't serious, but because I ran away I missed out anyway. She was always the teacher I never forgot though, her name imprinted in my memory forever. Teach on in the skies Mrs Pickles, gone but never forgotten.

Mrs Pickles was my teacher in 1971. She was an icon at Papanui Primary. I remember when we learned at the start of the year that she was going to be our teacher, that many of us felt quite concerned because of her reputation of being a dragon. But she was a kind and sincere teacher who cared a great deal about her pupils. It's been a pleasure to read the previous tributes to her and to discover how highly regarded she was by former pupils, friends, and colleagues.

Mrs Pickles taught me in 1966 at Papanui Primary School. She made a huge impression. She called girls Josephine Finacklepan. Jack was born on February 29 and she used to say she was married to an 11 year old. I have also had a career in education. Great lady.

Mrs Pickles was our neighbour when we lived in Christchurch and she was a wonderful lady. Stayed with her many a time and she had a great sense of humour. She will be sadly missed

Wonderful memories of a fantastic teacher at Papanui Primary, who taught many of our whanau. I still have a copy of Cheaper By The Dozen that she read to us. Even when I beacame a member of the BOT I still called her Mrs Pickles. Rest peacefully. Lynda Goodrick (Pahi) and whanau

I taught with Veda from 1983 until her retirement. What a fountain of knowledge. Forever 92 she introduced me to the teaching of poetry - naughty and a wee bit scary ( the poems, not her ! ! ) although for the first few years I found her daunting. The BEST joke teller I've ever met. We used to go to staff functions together after Jack's passing. What a combo ! The last time I saw Veda was at my retirement where she held a captive audience with her anecdotal stories. RIP - This photo shows how she could keep an audience entertained

A favourite teacher at Papanui Primary School. She was always 92 and if you were naughty she would turn in to a dragon. Never saw it though.
We used to get hot cross buns at Easter. She was lovely.

Most terrific storyteller teacher ever!! Standard 1 1974?? Papanui Primary School Loved Enid Blyton, Pippa Longstocking, and many many more books that she read so well. Got to meet Margaret Mahy in her class. Also had the strap put in front of my desk. Like many I'm sure we were told she was 90! So was totally astounded to meet her on the street in 2002 and to hear her offer her condolences following the death of my father!!
ALWAYS WILL BE REMEMBERED FONDLY!!

A teacher that left a lasting memory. Always told us that she was in her 90's (back in the early 70's), shame she didn't make it to her 90's. Lovely teacher. Remember telling her I had sore knees from growing pains and she said if we chop you off at your knees you won't feel that pain any more. I'm sure she will be greatly missed. Love to the family xxx

A lovely neighbour, and remembered by some of her pupils as "the Dragon Lady", a name she found highly amusing.
Great to have known you.
