Elaine OAKLEY Obituary

OAKLEY,
Elaine Ethel (nee Dennis):
Born March 11, 1930; died April 9, 2015. Elaine was the second daughter of Pamela and Ernie Dennis of Glenroy, sister to Geraldine, Clive, Roger, Gordon and Fiona. In 1956 Elaine married her dearly loved husband Bob Oakley, of Ruapuna. In the course of time they moved to Brackendale, near Glenroy, and farmed there, and she had four children: Peter, John, Harold and Elizabeth, to whom she was devoted. Elaine was a caring grandmother to Freya,
Thomas, and Rose, children
of Peter and Suzanne; to Laura, Charlotte and Robert, children of John and Marie; and to Arthur, son of John and Nicky; to Adelaide, Florence, Emily, Henry and William, children of Harold and Relda; to Daniel, son of Elizabeth and the late Paul Bean; and to Holly, daughter of Elizabeth and Mark Harvey. Until the end of her life, Elaine was a hardworking member of several groups: from the 1940s, the Baptist church; from the 1940s, Glenroy Rural Women; and from the early 1990s, the Christchurch Dickens Fellowship. Elaine and her family thank the staff of Essie Summers Hospital for their care of her in her last weeks. Messages may be addressed to The Family of the late Elaine Oakley, c/- PO Box 39001, Christchurch 8545. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated in the church of S. Michael and All Angels, 84 Oxford Terrace, Christchurch, Tomorrow (Saturday), at 10.30am.

My deepest condolences to the Oakley family. I had the pleasure of living with Mr & Mrs Oakley for a year. Elaine would always say to me when I was going out for the night "don't do anything I wouldn't do". She was in her 60s and was 17. Great sense of humour and she had loads of time for me. Always have great memories of her

Deepest sympathies to the Oakley family. I have bright memories of your mothers warm welcomes to Brackendale when I visited Elizabeth as a child, of her joyful singing when taking us for Sunday school and her positive and generous nature. Thinking of you at this sad time.

Our sincere condolences to Bob, Peter, John, Harold and Elizabeth. Also to Geraldine, Roger, Clive, Gordon & Fiona and the extended Oakley and Dennis family. We have many wonderful memories of time spent at Brackendale with Elaine and Bob. Elaine's kindness, love, sense of humour, passion for music and her faith in the lord, made her light up any room. Even though Elaine has been called home to be with our loving father in heaven, we will forever hold her and the many memories spent with her in our hearts always. Elaine will be greatly missed.
