It was with great sadness that I learned yesterday of Duncan's death. Duncan was my cousin (our mothers were sisters) and we met for the very first time in 2004, when Duncan and Moira travelled to Scotland after the death of Duncan's sister Margaret.
Letters and photographs from Duncan's mother Mabel to her 2 younger sisters in Scotland - Helen, my mother, and Violet, her youngest sister - were very much part of my growing up; and so meeting Duncan and Moira after all of the years was for me very special. Our memories of their time here in Scotland, staying with cousin Jim and his wife Bet, and visiting John and me here in Balshagray Avenue are memories we will always treasure.
Since then we have exchanged occasional emails and cards; and I particularly looked forward to receiving Duncan's Christmas roundup emails - always full of enthusiasm for life in general and proud news of his family. John and I had hoped to travel to Christchurch to meet Duncan again but it was not to be.
Duncan was such a fine man - truly worthy of the love, respect and admiration of his family and friends. Our deepest condolences go to all of Duncan's family in New Zealand and Australia; and to Ans whose support and friendship I know Duncan truly valued in his final years.

A wonderful gentleman who became part of our lives, attending both my daughters weddings, I remember, in Duncan" words the "two old men going off for a trek" in bush in Rarotonga and returning with smiles on their faces. May you have many more expeditions. In this picture I remember you having fun at the stag party in Raro, - Bill's daughter (Helen) Gaye White nee McLea
