Douglas McCLYMONT Obituary

Passed away on August 8, 2024, aged 80 years, at The Gardens Retirement Home, Rotorua. Beloved husband and soulmate of Theresa. Proud Grandad of Jamie, Anoushka and Marcus, and doting Papa of Mila and Lucy.
Someone with an insatiable thirst for knowledge and adventure, and for building and maintaining worldwide connections, Doug was a fine teacher, a hugely-talented biomechanist and sports coach, and a man of integrity who will be missed by many whose lives he touched. Sorry to hear of Doug's passing. Doug was my sports master and coach at Southland Boys High School and he made the School the top athletics club in the City. He was a firm but fair coach and took his athletes to local country sports events and major inter school competitions throughout the South Island.
I have remained in the sport as an administrator and official for the rest of my life. My continued involvement is due to Doug's enthusiasm and encouragement .
Condolences to the family.
Rest in peace Doug.

I have really great memories of Doug as one of my tutors at Chch College of Education back in the 90s. He was passionate about biomechanics and shared that love with us as students. Doug always knew how to have a laugh and didn't take life more seriously than it needed. Even then, he was clearly a wonderful family man and it was lovely to spend time at events with Theresa and little Juliet.

Doug leaves a big legacy across the sport and PE community and will be missed and remembered fondly.
