Sorry to hear of Doug's passing. Doug was my sports master and coach at Southland Boys High School and he made the School the top athletics club in the City. He was a firm but fair coach and took his athletes to local country sports events and major inter school competitions throughout the South Island.
I have remained in the sport as an administrator and official for the rest of my life. My continued involvement is due to Doug's enthusiasm and encouragement .
Condolences to the family.
Rest in peace Doug.

I have really great memories of Doug as one of my tutors at Chch College of Education back in the 90s. He was passionate about biomechanics and shared that love with us as students. Doug always knew how to have a laugh and didn't take life more seriously than it needed. Even then, he was clearly a wonderful family man and it was lovely to spend time at events with Theresa and little Juliet.
Doug leaves a big legacy across the sport and PE community and will be missed and remembered fondly.
