Douglas McCAMMON Obituary

Passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2025, aged 86 years. Much loved husband of Ann, devoted father of Tracy, and respected father-in-law of Rod. Doug was the last surviving brother of Des, and Brian, and cherished son of Nellie and Andrew. A true gentleman, a kind soul, and a great guy. Doug's life was filled with remarkable achievements - an enthusiastic pilot who proudly represented New Zealand, an accomplished television sports producer, a passionate contributor to sport as Vice President of the New Zealand Softball Umpire Association - but his proudest legacy was the love, respect, and admiration he earned simply by being a good man. He was a man of quiet strength, deep warmth, and unwavering integrity - a wonderful man who leaves the world gentler, kinder, and prouder for having known him. Messages may be addressed to: The family of the late Doug McCammon, c/- PO Box 39001, Christchurch 8545. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society in memory of Doug, would be appreciated and may be made online at cancer.org.nz. A memorial service to honour Doug's life will be held in our Westpark Chapel, 467 Wairakei Road, Burnside, on Saturday, May 31, at 2.00pm.

Doug was a tremendous, humble person who shared his knowledge about television with me. Doug was one of the early sports tv directors in New Zealand at DNTV2. A well lived life, Doug...

Loved working with Doug on many Sports events in in the South Island and Wellington. Believe he was the first director of synchronised swimming broadcast... not an easy job from memory but we worked our way through it. He made these times less stressful and always fun. Had softball in common as well, involving Ann and Tracy. Condolences to you both.
