A very belated memory of Doug Kelly, going back to Woolston School in the 1950s. A few teachers made a big impression, for all the right reasons, and Mr Kelly was one of those. I followed his career intermittently over the years, in awe of his achievements and thankful for our year together at Woolston School. I think every kid in his class respected him and felt encouraged to do their very best at whatever they were good at. A great teacher.

Just read of Doug's passing.
I am inserting this message on behalf of my mum and dad, Sylvia (Shackle) and Jim Oliver.
Both sadly now deceased.
Sylvia was a Christchurch Teachers College friend of Joy.
She kept in contact with Joy and their mutual friends right through their lives.
Kind regards
Lyndsay Prendiville, Sylvia & Jim's daughter.

My sincere condolences to Allison and the Kelly family. I have fond memories of dancing to Doug's music and band at the old St Johns Saturday night dance hall. Doug also advised me on music matters when he visited me at Ouruhia School. A great man who has taken his talents to the grand orchestra in the hereafter. Salutations Doug from Gary Wilson

Very happy memories of Doug who introduced me (Noeleen) to the idea of Music Education as a career. Deepest sympathy to Allison and the Kelly family. Also lots of great memories as we all talked about Doug yesterday at band practise. 50s Up Brass.

Lovely memories of Doug going way back to the 60's when he used to come into Chas. Begg for music and later to Sedley Wells. Doug encouraged me to become a Secondary music teacher and between him and Uncle Frank (Dennis) they gave me the opportunity to have the best possible career.
My heartfelt sympathy to Allison and the Kelly family. A wonderful man gone to rest. Noeleen.
Great memories too and deepest sympathy from 50s UP BRASS.
