Douglas COLLINS Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Banks Collins, on Saturday, November 22, 2025. Much loved brother to Keith and Ian (dec), and Myriel Hobbs (nee Collins), uncle to Clinton, Janine, Brian, Douglas, Stephen, Raymond, Deanne, Craig, Owen and Ron. A true gentleman and gifted artist, Doug passed peacefully and suddenly at his home in the Marlborough Sounds. Doug was a valued and cherished member of the local Grove Arm community, contributing to school and community fundraising events through the gifting of his artwork. He will also be remembered for his lifetime devotion and contribution to his beloved scout movement and his iconic character letter boxes, spread throughout the Sounds and Marlborough district. A memorial service will be held when appropriate, with details being sent to those close to him.

I am deeply saddened to hear that my dear old friend and Scouting mate has died.
I especially remember Doug as one of the guys I spend many holidays with at the bach we all built at Raupo Bay, and also as the producer of several Canterbury Gang Shows which I appeared in as a you´d Scout. I also spend many happy times as a boy helping Doug to paint scenery for the Gang Shows at Commercial Illustrations.
Doug was a lovely man and a gifted artist as well as a top class Scout Leader, and was the best Gang Shows leader we have ever had.
So, good bye Doug - and thanks so much.

Doug was a great friend over many years & news of his death was dreadful surprise to me because in my mind I believed he, of all people, would live 100 years. I have vivid memories of many wonderful occasions shared with Doug over 70 years or so but his passing leaves a profound emptiness.
Our thoughts & love are with Myriel during this sad time.

Many happy memories, when Doug lived at the Timeball station, Lyttleton, where we played as children. Huge family Christmas functions, for many years. Good memories and so proud to be part of the Collins Moore family.

Very sorry and shocked to learn Doug passed away. I did home care for Myriel, Ron, and Doug, and stayed friends with them after I shifted out of the Sounds. Doug made toy garages for my grandsons which they treasure. He was well loved by everyone. A real treasure and so gifted. My sincere condolences to the family.
