Extract from my notes I meant to read at Dollys funeral but left behind and didn't have the courage to read without them.
I went to live with Dolly(my mother in law) for a few month's about 50 years ago.
At this time Dolly was often left living by herself while Super was away fishing.
By the time I got up in the mornings Dolly had My toast made, the dinner on and was on to the baking .
The cake tins were always full,Dusky Dandy,Marshmallow Short cake,Albert Square and Sugar Buns were just some of Dollys specials.
There was friendly competition between Dollys sisters as to who made the best of a certain cake or slice
Each sister and sister in law had there specialty.
It was while staying with Dolly I learnt that cards (euchre) was a serious game.
I think this was the only time she told me off -for reneging or taking a point from your partner.
Many hours were spent playing cards with the sisters or anyone who happened to visit.
I'd never had so many afternoon teas, this was almost a daily treat as we visited sisters Vida and Ollie and sister in laws.
If we we were not visiting then we had someone calling in.
Often Dolly made lunch or dinner for guests, she was a great cook making Whitebait patties and roasts.
She was very proud of her Tripe which she made for her brother in laws, never eating it herself.
Dolly liked to knit so to fill in time we knitted big men's jerseys.
She knitted Super two and I think,Harry one.I think she was pleased I was there to knit Frank's.
Frank recalled that his father spent a whole year away once.
Although life wasn't perfect we were happy and had a lot of laughs.
Dolly was a good mother in law-she didn't take sides although she wasn't afraid to take mine on occasion when it was needed.
Dolly for as long as I can remember always made you feel welcome and she had a gift of making you feel good about yourself.
Thank you Dear Dolly I miss you xxx

The very first time we met I was soaking wet from the West Coast rain which must been just bad luck because according to Dolly it didnt really rain that much over there.... little did I know that very first time how many laughs we were about to share over the years ahead. Even if there were already many grandchildren in the family Dolly had some room left in the heart and accepted my proposal to adopt her as my nana.

Thanks for many fond memories Nana Dolly,
and lots of love to the family
