Dorothy JONES Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Dorothy May Jones, who left us peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Christchurch Hospital, aged 93. Cherished and much-loved wife of the late Raymond (Ray) Jones. Dorothy was the cherished matriarch of our family – a woman of unwavering strength and kindness. Her life was one of devotion: to her family, her church community, and the values she lived by every day. Dearly loved mother of: Gary (deceased) and Anne, Carol and Mike, Heather and Walter, Stu and Sarah, and Lindsay (deceased). Dorothy's heart and home were always open, and she was not only a mother but also a source of wisdom and comfort for her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren – all of whom were deeply devoted to her and enriched by her presence in their lives. A Service to celebrate the life of Dorothy will be held at the Linwood Avenue Union Church, 378 Linwood Avenue, Bromley, Christchurch, on Wednesday, June 18, at 12.00pm, followed by interment at Ruru Lawn Cemetery.

Rest in Peace, home now with her Lord and Saviour – Jesus Christ, departed family and friends. You will be forever missed and always remembered.

Dorothy was in my class all through High School. When we left school I also looked forward to meeting up with Dorothy and the rest of the class for lunch twice a year. This continued till we were in our 80's and 90's.I remember Dorothy was the last in our class to go gray ! Sadly there is just two of our class left now.I shall miss her.

I have known Dorothy for many years through the Folk Art and Craft group.
I enjoyed hearing about her family which she was clearly proud of.
She will be sadly missed at our morning tea meetings.
Rest well Dorothy.
