I'm glad you can finally be at peace Dianne, after your health struggles. I'll always remember chatting to you at work, hearing your stories, and being asked if your grocery total included a tall, good-looking man with a chainsaw! I will remember the advice you gave me, and how you always asked after my husband and then my baby daughter, even though you didn't know them. Rest in peace, Dianne.

Mrs Burke was one of my teachers through my childhood years at Halswell Primary School.

She had a spark and wit that was always brought to class in the way she taught. She made me feel so included and comfortable within the classroom and school, along with being a memorable teacher that believed in me to go on and achieve my dreams! You were an integral part of Halswell Primary and will always be in my childhood memories.

My sincere condolences to Dianne´s family.

Mrs Burke was my teacher in 1980. She was strict but I loved her for it, keeping the unruly kids in line! I'll never forget school camp at Glenroy. It was the first time I'd seen her in pants, as she was always dressed smartly in her matching skirts and jackets. She spent the entire day digging away at a cliff so that every one of us went home with a fossilised sharks tooth. That was when I recognised her love and dedication to us all.
I was delighted to find her still teaching when my children started at Halswell.
Rest in love, Mrs Burke

Dianne was an integral part of Halswell School for many many years. She had a passion for education and was always looking for novel ways of introducing concepts to children in an effective and fun way. She taught children from ages 5-13 finishing her years at Halswell in the junior school as Assistant Principal.

Dianne had an amazing intellect and a thirst for learning. She continued to complete university studies in various topics throughout her working life. Dianne was also an incredibly caring and generous person who was always ready to help others, particularly families at school who were going through hard times.

Dianne will be remembered by the students she has taught, and the many staff that have worked with her throughout the years.

We offer our sincere condolences to Dianne´s family.

Fondly remember Dianne's years as owner/breeder of the Courtenay Cattery and her Siamese cats. The Nelson family had two of her Siamese boys over the years, and she dearly loved all of them - especially her dam Tui, who became a much loved pet in her and Pat's Halswell home.

Mrs Burke set early learners at Halswell on their educational journey in the best way possible. Dianne taught according to a child's needs and not the prevailing educational fad of the day - not always appreciated by school management but a gift to those in her classes.

A strong woman, wilful, and totally dedicated to teaching and children.

Rest In Peace. With respect and affection, the Bryant Family.
