Hi Marcie ... my thoughts and sympathy are with you. I loved Des, right from my first memory of him playing cricket with us kids, as one of us, out on the family lawn in Allandale and visiting him in the East Bookshop on Thursdays in ChCh. Always a smile. Always an interest in "how are you today?" What a lovely guy. Thinking of you Marcie.

Dear family,
I am unable to get to Uncle Des' service and want to convey my love and support to you all. Uncle Des was my Super-Fun unclealways smiling, always welcoming, always kindly. I know my mother and father Marjorie and Roger Stanley were very very fond of Des and Mum often talked about her days when the Hume family was still living under one roof and how supportive they all were to each other and remained so throughout their lives. In the 1960's visits to Christchurch were always, for me, amazing with a bunch of aunts, uncles and cousins. I loved visiting Uncle Des in the bookshop the name of which escapes me now.
With deepest sympathy,
Christine Stanley and Alan and Hannah Gray

HUME,
Desmond Richard (Des):
Thank you for being such a great father, always being there for me. All the love you gave and your great sense of humour. I will always remember all the great times we shared and everything you did for me. I love you so much and will miss you forever.
