Promoted to Glory
Peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on October 26, 2025. Dearly loved husband of Cherie (nee Goodall of Riwaka) and loving father of Shane, Glen, Aaron and Vanessa McGrath, and adopted father of Vicky Rendell-Goodhew. Loved father-in-law of Sarah Wylie, Sheryl, Kirsten, Blair and Murray. Adored Grandad to Sam and Toby; Joel and Ella; Connor and Eli; Liam and Lachlan; Gareth and Adrian. Loved brother of Bruce and beloved member of the Goodall family. As a committed Salvation Army Officer, he has given lifelong service to God and the community. He was a highly regarded Rotarian for 57 years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made online only, to the Christchurch City Salvation Army Corps towards further youth work, https://www.salvationarmy.org.nz/corps/christchurch-city-corps/. A service to celebrate Des' life will be held in the Christchurch City Corps Citadel, corner of Colombo and Salisbury Streets, on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 11.00am, followed by private cremation.

Des was President of his Rotary Club when I was his Governor. He lead a good team. Thanks for your service. Unbeknown at the time but we both worked together in the aftermath of the Wahine disaster. Rest in peace. Rex Morris
