Denise NYHAN Obituary

3.6.1937 - 29.12.2024
'Late December back in 24' was a special time as Mum danced her last dance to Abba's 'Dancing Queen', drank her last glass of Sav (or bubbly when celebrating a win), listened to her last race from Mot (with the aptly named 'Go Home Denise' in it) and then headed off to join Dad at his HRNZ meeting in the sky! She was the dearly loved daughter of the late Bill and Nellie Doyle, loved wife, mother and mother-in-law of Denis (dec), Kim, Leon, Margo and Pete and loved sister and sister-in-law of Helen and Mick (dec) Pope, Lynn and Gerry Smith ,Barry (dec) and Val (dec) Nyhan and aunty to their tribes. Bar her short stay in Christchurch Hospital, she was still living 'With Intent' and purpose on the farm, spending her days checking on her 'girls' and the other horses and hanging out with her devoted black cat. She was still even talking about breeding another foal, but said 'Knowing Me' I won't stick round long enough to see it race, but showed, at 87, the passion was still there! 'It's So Easy' to know she will now be at peace tho, because she basically lived out her dream of remaining on the farm to the end of her days.

Very sad. I love the loving words, clever words you have written here. Thank you. Another matriach of our industry departed. Bred and raced a lot of top line, some great horses. A great support for Denis huge success.
