I met David years ago at a local stamp show during one of his many trips to Vancouver Island and I greatly enjoyed his enthusiasm for the hobby. I was saddened to learn of David's passing and will miss him.

On behalf of the Canterbury Branch of the Rarebreeds Conservation Society, we are saddened by the loss of David but so grateful for having him as part of the Society for so long. We shall miss his knowledge, his wit and his wicked sense of humor. We shall also miss him and his hammer at all our working bees, and he shall forever hold the record for oldest member up a ladder and on a roof of his beloved container. We have lost a gentleman, a scholar and a friend, but we are all richer for having the pleasure.

I admired Dave for his commitment to ASD. Especially his effort with co authors Warren, Oliver, McFadden & Donaldson producing "Agricultural Extension in Canterbury to 1987." Along with his reflections. He will have taken huge satisfaction in the fact MPI has finally seen the light & need to appoint 60 advisors to help producers with productivity and environmental issues. Reinventing the wheel admitting the need for on the ground, in the field, staff. Dave was very supportive of my attempts to produce a publication; "Government Horticulture Experts 1893-1987" A work in progress, setting out to name all those staff who over the years have contributed to the NZ Horticulture Industry. Of note is that Daves' fellow RAO. Noel Congdon of Hawkes Bay passed away recently. Robt Findlay. One time CAO (Horticulture)

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together such as the entertaining stories at Thanksgiving dinners with the Jones family, as you celebrate David and his life that was well lived. He is an inspiration and will be deeply missed.
