I'm saddened to hear of his passing, surely happening too soon in his life. Dave was one of my roommates the first time I went to Antarctica in 2002. I was a complete stranger to everyone and as such it was great to be put in a room with him as he made me feel right at home from the start. I enjoyed his company as a roomie and every time I got of the ice in subsequent years I made it a point to stop in to the post office to say hi and have a chat. It was an honor to have known him.

I´m very sorry to hear Dave has passed. I enjoyed seeing him with Grahame G before Christmas and it was great to see him in positive spirit. He always had a lovely easygoing way and I appreciated how he reconnected with me after a long period since our school days.
His way of keeping in touch and offering condolences when my parents died, were just more examples of how he valued `the right stuff´.
We met as school kids and grew into a shared obsession with motorbikes.
One of my favorite memories was getting my Provisional Licence, having never ridden and Dave, John Higby Grahame Gay and I, just took off for a ride... my dads Honda 50 at 50kph seem sooo fast that afternoon (after bicycle speeds). The first of several great haring arounds.
I have picked up a lurgy (hopefully not covid) so I won´t be able to come to his celebration of life today. My heart felt condolences to Sandra, family and friends who will miss him very much.

For several years I participated in pre-season training in the Christchurch post office and so got to work with Dave Kennan. That was one of the highlights of my McMurdo job as postal clerk. Dave was welcoming, kind, calm and organized. He had saved all the materials we needed to get caught up on postal changes before the work season, and he made a good cup of tea at break time. Being around him was so enjoyable. Dave will always be part what I see when I think of my times in Christchurch.

I worked with Dave through the US Antarctic Program for decades. It would often be an email or phone call in May or June to clarify a postal question that I would then communicate to USAP participants. I would always make a point to visit with him during deployments and delighted in his politeness, wittiness, and good nature. He was always one of those friendly faces that we Americans counted on to patiently help us understand how to fill out the necessary forms. He will truly be missed and well remembered.
