David BARKER Obituary

Died peacefully in Kaikoura Hospital on January 29, 2026 after a short illness. Husband of Sue. Brother of Gretchen and Geoffrey, Doug and Annie. Uncle of Leigh, Julian, Thomas and Sam. Dave's company was enjoyed by Sue's daughters, Hannah and Clint, Rose and Tom.
Dave was intriguing and inspiring to all the great-nieces and nephews, and the grandchildren. Dave was a member of the NZ Wildlife Service where his passion for ecology and bird work evolved. He was owner of True, Mot and Libby, and one time owner of Bob, Gus, Jack and Queen. Master of Bess. In lieu of flowers (or tussocks, joke) donations to the Kaikoura Pony Club or the Mayfair Arts Theatre would be appreciated and may be left at his service.

Much loved.

The Funeral Service for Dave will be held at St Pauls on the Hill Church , 7 Deal Street, Kaikoura on Monday, February 2, at 1.30pm.

My heartfelt sympathy to Curley's family. Having lost my husband on Jan 3rd, this has been an extra shock. A beautiful soul. I'll always remember him.

So sad to hear of a great man passing. We felt very lucky to be invited to be a part of Daves life, he shared so much with us and our mutual love of GSP's cemented the friendship. He will be sadly missed but forever grateful for the times we had.

Barker - Jeez this came as a shock. Sad news. Recalling many memories from the time we worked together at MDC. Lots of laughs, long lunches on Fridays at Hotel d'Urville then the happy hour that evening. The odd session at the Royal Hotel. Cups of tea and fresh scones. Dave - RIP ol mate. Accident on SH1 at Grassmere has shut the road. So disappointed to miss your send off and hear the great stories being told about a life well lead by an absolute character. The place needs more like you for sure. Was a privilege to know you.
