On Saturday, July 19, 2025, the world lost a true original: Dave Henderson - known to many as Friday Night Dave, Half-Time Henderson, Brod, The Walrus, and to those closest to him, simply legend. Dave passed away peacefully after a hard-fought battle with COPD, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and leaking taps fixed with unmatched precision. Beloved husband, proud dad, doting grandad, cheeky brother, favourite uncle, loyal friend, master craftsman plumber, Speights Mate, and all-round good bugger - Dave will be missed by everyone lucky enough to have shared a yarn with him. Massive thanks to the incredible team at St John Ambulance, and Ward 19 and the Emergency Department at Christchurch Hospital - your care and kindness meant the world. Instead of flowers please consider donating to COPD research or to St Johns Ambulance. Come celebrate Dave's life - and tell your best "Dave story" - on Friday, July 25, at 1.00pm at the John Rhind Chapel, Richmond (entrance off London or Whitmore Streets). Then, in true Dave style, raise a glass with us at the New Brighton Workingman's Club for a proper Friday Night Dave send-off (from 4.00pm). Please share with his mates.
