Ralph Sigouin Obituary

SIGOUIN, Ralph J.
RCAF Pilot Officer (Retired)
May 30, 1917 July 17, 2011
Ralph passed away peacefully at the Westlock
Healthcare Centre after a brief illness with
family at his side.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda and
Terry, his son-in-law Rick Swan; three
grandsons, Todd Swan, Alec McGillivray and
his wife Sarah, and Brett McGillivray and his
wife Kendra. He is also survived by his great-
grandson Jackson, son of Alec and Sarah, and
Ralphs most kind and precious nephew
Richard Proulx and his wife Lynn, his brothers
Alphonse and wife Frances, and Gerry and
wife Rose Alice, and also many nieces and
nephews. Ralph was predeceased by his wife
Irene in 2004, his son-in-law Neal McGillivray
in 2003, his sister Germaine, and his two
eldest brothers Louis and Ted.
Ralph instilled kindness and duty by example,
and his quick wit was legendary. Every time he
helped someone it was done quietly without
fanfare. He served during World War II in the
RCAF under RAF bomber command in
England where he met his future wife Irene D.
Boon. After the war he farmed at Legal, AB,
worked for Imperial Oil, was in the hotel
business, and sold real estate. He retired at
Dapp, AB and later moved to Westlock, AB
and lived in his own home until 2010 and later
at the Smithfield Lodge where he was deeply
grateful and appreciative of the loving
kindness, excellent care, and very dedicated
staff. The home care staff and lodge staff are
terrific, the best of the best, and to each of
them, including Annieta, Chelsea, Colette,
Elisha, Lucy, Peggy, Roberta, Susanne, Gail
and Judy and to all those to whom we cannot
put a name we are most grateful. We owe a
debt of gratitude to Dr. F. Mydeen and the
doctor on call, Dr. J. van der Westhuizen, who
attended his last few hours.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, July
21st, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Westlock Funeral
Chapel with Pastor Keith Bidne officiating
with interment of cremains in the Westlock
Cemetery. If anyone so wishes, donations to
Camp He Ho Ha or World Vision would be
appreciated c/o 10004 - 105 Street,
Westlock, AB T7P 1V2.

To Terry, Rick & family
My thoughts are with you at this time.
Sorry I was unaware of your fathers passing.
I have the fondest memories of you & I in our teens when my second home was the Legal Hotel and cherry pie after school. Your dad's wit was alway welcomed.
Your friend

For the short time I worked with and learned how easy it was to love Ralph have become treasured moments. His sense of humor and gentleness touched us all. I am proud that I got to know him and that I was there in his final days and that I got to say goodbye to a friend. I am deeply sorry that I can not attend his final memorial because I will be working but my thoughts will definitely be with him and with his family. Thank you for letting me be a part of his life and for the time spent with you his family. All my love Colette.
