Cheryl-Myree MCKENNA Obituary

McKENNA,
Cheryl-Myree (nee Baird):
On Wednesday, July 15, 2020. Loving mother of Shaun, and Bridie, cherished grandmother of Aston, and Baxtor, passed away at the age of 70. Living most of her life in Christchurch, Cheryl dedicated herself to the nursing profession. As well as caring for everyone that came into her life, Cheryl had a passion for renovating houses, listening to her favourite music and laughing over a glass of bubbly. Cheryl is also survived by her older brother Wayne who adored her, her nephew Christopher who became a very dear friend and her sister-in-law Robyn who she respected and loved dearly. Cheryl lived a vivacious life that ended peacefully. The Funeral service for Cheryl will be held in our Westpark Chapel, 467 Wairakei Road, Burnside, on Friday, July 24, at 2.00pm.

Today was sad and reflective but very special, Cheryl. Our 1967 Princess Margaret Hospital nursing class bound us all tightly in love and friendship with our many adventures together and you were a vibrant part of it all. You were so glamorous and with your exquisite dress making skills you shone! You were classy! You were kind and fun loving - so many good memories. You and I share the same birthday - you were a year younger than me. We've missed you over the years - we've talked of you often and wished you well. Your funeral today was beautiful and it was so nice to meet your family again and some of your friends. Go well dear Cheryl. Grace and peace. Jo Patterson

I was in Cheryl's nursing class. I also boarded for a while with her at her lovely parents home. Cheryl was instrumental in organising a "Biblical Ball" at the Sign of the Takahe. It was a grand night but our financial management was terrible and it took us weeks to pay it off. Cheryl and I went to New Caledonia and Fiji and had some memorable times, for example when the captain of the boat that took us out to the lighthouse in Noumea put a snake in her bag for her to find! We lost touch over the years, but I have fond memories of time spent with Cheryl. God bless you all with comfort in your time of mourning. Angela Fordham (nee O'Connell).
