Charles MARTIN Obituary
MARTIN, Charles Alexander (Charlie) - Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, aged 76, surrounded by his family, after a brave fight with cancer. Dearly loved husband of Valerie. Much loved and adored Dad to Jane and Andy, and father-in-law to Matt and Catherine. Loved Poppa to Amy, Grace, Lucy, Tom and Kate. Treasured twin brother of Eddie and brother of Bett, Jim, Hazel, Brian, Laurie and the late Jean. A service to celebrate Charlie's life will be held at St George's Anglican Church, 1 Church Street, Gate Pa, Tauranga, on Tuesday, February 18, at 2.30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Child Cancer Foundation can be made. Charlie you were an outstanding broadcaster, a pathfinder and leader in your field, setting standards in those early days of sports broadcasting that others followed with pride. Surely the greatest of all accolades to your professionalism. We paddled in the same waka for many years, shared very special moments, , both here and overseas and a trusted friendship. Later our pathways took different courses but the memories of shared laughter and good times never faded.
Val my heart goes out to you and your family at this very sad time my thoughts are with you all.
