It won´t be the same without our Charlie. Charlie and Monica were like another set of parents to us and grandparents to our children.
Charlie was a unique human being, kind, funny, full of knowledge and would bend over backwards to help at any time. He was the epitome of a typical hard working kiwi and the world was all the better for having Charlie a part of it. He is simply irreplaceable and we will miss him and Monica dearly. May you both rest in peace together and you will always be remembered with love.

I volunteered with Charlie in the local Diamond Harbour Fire Brigade for many years. Charlie was a thoroughly committed Firefighter and eventually became our Chief Fire Officer. It was an honour to serve under him. He was a great friend and so passionate about the this beautiful part of the Peninsula. RIP Charlie and thank you so much for your service. Bob Palmer

My sympathies to Pau, Kim, Leeanne & families.
I date back to Charlies yachting days, including a certain "tangle with a shark", when our boat capsized in a NW gale in 1963. While hanging on to the upturned boat, with a broken mast, Charlie thought I was "pulling his leg", but it was a frightened shark instead!
That left him minus a thumb and in hospital for nearly 2 months, but he was not put off sailing, and was back on the water again before long. A quite and humble man but hard to "fluster", invariably friendly, and with a great underlying sense of humour.
