I have only just learnt of Bill's passing in 2016. As a pharmacist in Foxton from mid 1970's to 1980's, Bill was in my dispensary several times a week. It was a privilege to work with him in a professional capacity, as he was always the same - never in a hurry, always courteous, meticulous, and caring. I still remember his spidery writing on the literally thousands of his prescriptions I dispensed over the years we cared for patients from Foxton and surrounds. But I remember him from long before that too. It was he who diagnosed by appendicitis in 1958, and came on house calls in his yellow Triumph 2000 - with his doctor's bag always on the floor in the back behind the driver's seat. So many memories, all good, after the passing of this humble, caring, competent medical practitioner who knew how to care for patients, including not charging many who could not afford to pay. The world would be a better place if we had more like Dr Bill Malthus.

Will always be remembered by Jim & Jenny Titcombe & Family for the care given while a Doctor in Foxton. He was also a pleasure to work with at the Foxton Maternity Home. He always appreciated the cuppa and biscuits after delivering a baby. :)
Fondly remembered also by Alison Cranefield nee Titcombe and Janice Aislabie nee Titcombe.
Sincere condolences to the Malthus family.

DR Malthus, Oh the memories of growing up in Foxton. DR Malthus saved my life 30 years ago and I am very grateful for his quick decision to send me off to hospital when he did. Not a man of many words but a gentleman just the same. May he rest in peace.
