I was deeply saddened this morning to read of Bruce's passing. To Robyn and family I send my sincere heartfelt
condolences.
I had the great honour of working with Parky in life and on the rugby field. In both endeavours his leadership was a fine example to me. His fastidious application of the Building Regs and meticulous adherence to detail was paramount.
There was nothing soft or wishy-washy about Parky, he was totally uncompromising, hard as the nails he hammered and as tough as the timber he fashioned. Always true to himself, loyal to friends and connections. I don't know if I've ever met a more genuine, direct, honest and helpful bloke.
These personal characteristics were magnified on the rugby field where his focus and fitness garnered an impressively magnificent record of continuity, contribution and achievement.
I consider it a huge privilege to have played under him at the peak of his athletic prowess where his contributions to Mid-Canterbury, South Island and NZ Rugby saw him only a hair's breadth away from an All Blacks jersey.
Be proud of you Dad kids. Rest in Peace Bruce, we are all the better for having known you.
