I knew Brian from his time in Ottawa, Canada. I was one of his boy choristers in the St. Matthew´s Men and Boys Choir in Ottawa. He was an inspiration to me and many others who went on to professional careers in the choral arts. He will be missed by many.

Very sad to hear of Brian's death. As GM of the CSO 1990-2003 I worked with Brian many times. One unusual but with a vivid memory was when the CSO was invited to perform as pr-match entertainment to the Crusaders opening game of the 1996 Super Rugby Season. I was stunned when informed that we'd only have 5 minutes to pack out before the game started. Having already recorded the Crusaders theme - Vangelis's "Conquest of Paradise and other material Brian suggested that the orchestra and choir "mime"the music from the touchline. Apparently Brian had done this successfully with the Ottawa Symphony. I asked him what would we do if the PA system broke down. He said it was a very small risk to take. So we did it and to this day I don't think any of the fans were aware of our "trick". I was also stunned when on the announcement of my resignation from the CSO Brian appeared in my office with three bottle of red plus a very strong hug!

The end of a musical era. Thanks for all the wonderful music in Christchurch City Choir over the years. Thanks for your leadership, patience, humour and your dirty looks at choir. Thanks for your friendship, the various pets we have had and thanks for being so great with my children. So glad you kept your country lifestyle throughout your New Zealand life. A true gentleman.

I have wored under Brian many times when I played in the CSO in the mid 90s. Always enjoyed his direction and sense of humour. RIP.
