What sad news in these lockdown times, our sincere sympathy to his family. Brian and I knew Bob well from travelling with him on the Claymore several times, and always found his company enjoyable.

I worked with Bob briefly on Claymore doing the Pitcairn Island run. Bob loved his crosswords and always had his own seat in the mess that no one dared sit in. He was a brain box genius totally pre-occupied with making a replica of the original Harrison chronometer from the 18th century. As well as that he had a perceptive endearing dark sense of humour that served us all well when things went bad. He set me right with my thrust bearing issue on my small boat with his knowledge that was obviously enormous in that realm. Good on Bob!
Best wishes in this difficult time to you all.
