Ours has been a quiet mutually supportive friendship from student days. Brian has made a great contribution through his pastoral work, his academic awareness in whichhe has been involved in Christchurch andDunedin as well as Palmdrston North, and included Laidlaw College. His ecumenical spirit was very evident in all this. But he had a global commitment as well, through the NZ Church Missionary Society.
Condolences to each member of his family at this time,
and I shall miss his wise, quiet interchanges of elderstatesmanlike comments.
He impacted the life of the church for good at many levels, arising from a lifetime of sincerity and from his own personal experience of knowing Jesus Christ, starting from his youth.

Dear May, Bishop Peter and Teresa and whanau,
We knew Bishop Brian only a little through NZCMS but he was a godly, humble, thoughtful and wise person. You are in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time. We watched the funeral online and it was a very special service for a special person.( I didn't come in to the Cathedral so that David could watch it online). You all spoke so well. May God comfort you deeply.

To Peter, Teresa, & family. Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your Dad. I had the privilege of knowing your Dad, well before yourselves, when he was General Secretary of CMS, and I was the National CMS Youth President for some of that time. I always held Brian in high regard and respect. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Kind regards. Kevin & Sheryll Gwynne.
