Esther Wirsing Obituary

Esther (Mostaccio) Wirsing, 85, passed away on May 3, 2025, in Peoria, Arizona. She was born in Chicago on March 24, 1940-Easter Sunday-and was affectionately known throughout her life as "Chicky."

Esther loved surrounding herself with people and sharing good food. She took joy in cooking, with her legendary homemade pizza being her signature dish that brought family and friends together. Esther had a lifelong love of games, especially Scrabble and cribbage, which she played with snark, wit, and a competitive edge. She had a special place in her heart for bingo, having many "bingo friends." She loved movies and was an avid collector. She could frequently be heard singing along to Paul Anka and Neil Diamond while driving or spending time with family.

Esther is lovingly remembered by her children: Connie Brunning, Tammie Barthen (Wallace Martin), Vickie Odgers (Jeff), Jerry Brunning, and Lisa Kaplan; and her stepsons: Mark Wirsing, Paul Wirsing (Dee), and Martin Wirsing (Esther). She is survived by her sister, Pat Mysliwiec, and her brother, Louis Mostaccio (Carolyn). Esther was the proud grandmother of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy. She had a broad circle of influence among her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Wirsing.

A memorial celebrating Esther's life will be held in Illinois at a future date.
