Bernardus BRAAS Obituary

1930 – 2024
Ben passed away peacefully at 4.10pm on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, just shy of his 94th birthday at the Ryman Anthony Wilding hospital. Dearly loved husband of Emerentiana, father of Catharina, Johanna, Benjamin, Elizabeth and Roslyn. Ben was born on December 25, 1930 in Avenhorn, Netherlands. He migrated to New Zealand on February 12, 1953 in pursuit of a better life and opportunity, post WWII. He will be remembered for his significant achievement and contribution towards the construction of New Zealand's hydro power generation dams at Roxburgh, Benmore and Aviemore, North Otago. Admired for his gardening (green thumb), self-sufficiency, relentless spirit, handyman skills and willingness to help without prompting. A man of true character. Ben requested a private direct cremation. His ashes will be scattered in the hydro dam area, which signifies a memorable milestone in his working life.
May you rest in peace Ben. We will miss you dearly.
