Anthony HARRIS Obituary

New Zealand Executive and Cricketeer
Passed February 2, 2026, in Duxbury, Massachusetts USA. Anthony Hardy Harris was born was on September 4, 1932, the son of Jack Hardy Harris and Catherine Rita Harris in Christchurch New Zealand. He attended Shirley Primary and Intermediate School, the prestigious Christ College and Canterbury University. He left university to do military service in the New Zealand Scottish Regiment affiliated with the Black Watch, where he trained to fight for the King. Anthony then worked for one year on the Molesworth Station of half a million acres as a training cadet, where he learned to ride horses to drive cattle and herd sheep. This served to prepare him for his work as a stock and station agent for the National Mortgage Agency. Anthony also worked as vice president for the Feron company, the largest seafood company in New Zealand. He ended his career with 25 years with the GL Baron company, the largest woolskin processing company in the world where he was a vice president. In 1986 he was sent to the US to establish their sales and marketing division. He married Christine Elizabeth Wilson in 1964 and was her husband until her death in 1985. His lifelong community interests included the Executive Board of the Old Collegiate Cricket Club where he served as president and The Valley of Peace Cricket Club. He was on the executive board of the New Zealand Export Institute, an active member of Saint Barnabus church and through the Old Colony Cricket Club, organized a visionary children's program which grew to over 14 teams. He was a member of the Canterbury Jockey Club and also served on the vestry of Christ Church Cathedral. In 1991 he met Susan McClure McElroy in Boston MA. They were married in 1992 in
Duxbury MA and moved to New Zealand for five years. In 1996 they returned to Duxbury where he belonged to the Duxbury Yacht Club and served as chair of several committees. He was also a member of Saint John's Episcopal church for over 30 years
and served on the board of Cranberry Hospice. He was a member of the six man golf group MAGS for many years. He is survived by his beloved wife Susan of Duxbury, his sons Tobias Hardy Harris of Wellington, New Zealand, Benjamin Hardy Harris and wife
Elanor of The Hague, 3 daughters Lisa Badeau and husband Jim of Duxbury, Annette Donovan of Fitchburg and Sarah Fonkalsrud and husband Dave of San Francisco, 4 grandsons Colby, Jamie, and Devin Badeau of Duxbury, Sebastian Harris of the Hague
and two granddaughters Grace and Charlotte Fonkalsrud of San Francisco . He was predeceased by his brother Michael Hardy Harris. Tony was a beloved friend in two hemispheres and was adored for his calm demeanor, loving nature and treasured loyalty. He will be missed by so many and especially by his family who called him Toto.
