Andrew PAULIN Obituary
Joyce McHerron, Justine Paulin, and our families join to say thank you to everyone who has supported us in celebrating the life of Andy Paulin, who died in Christchurch on 4 August, 2023, at Anthony Wilding Retirement Village. If you visited Andy at home or in hospital, did some baking, or made a meal, telephoned us, sent a message, sent flowers, made a donation to Nurse Maude Hospice, attended Andy's funeral at HMNZS Pegasus, or viewed the service online, please know that we appreciated your support. We are grateful for the support we received from HMNZS Pegasus in hosting Andy's funeral service - the place Andy served as a Naval Reservist for 32 years. During Andy's service, we say thanks to Butch Green for playing the Last Post and Reveille, Julia Parsons for reading the Ode of Remembrance, Lt Rebecca Nelson for her beautiful singing, and Linda O'Brien who conducted the service. The eulogies that people shared gave recognition of Andy's full life and his interests: Kevin Rivers (fly fishing), Chris Stevens (recognising Andy's long service as a Reservist), Casey (granddaughter), Kathy Cron and Wayne (sister and brother). Joyce shared the story of love and the life she had with her beloved Andy. We recognise and value the honour paid to Andy by his fellow members of the Canterbury Fly Fishing Club, shipmates and personnel of HMNZS Pegasus, who formed two guards of honour to farewell him. Thank you to Karl and Kylie Thompson for organising food and beverage for the after-match function at HMNZS Pegasus Senior Rates Mess. To the various medical teams who provided wonderful care for Andy in our home or within the health system, since 2008 when he was first diagnosed with prostate cancer: Nurse Maude Hospice, Christchurch Public Hospital, Burwood Hospital, doctors and medical staff of Halswell Health, Halswell Pharmacy, nurses and carers of the team at Healthcare New Zealand, Anthony Wilding Retirement Village hospital team, thank you. The professionalism of Liz Mills and the team at Lamb & Hayward was outstanding. Many addresses are unknown to us; please accept this acknowledgement, in recognition of what you did to recognise Andy's life and death. Thank you. Joyce, Justine and families.
