I first met Andy in the early 1990's at the formation of the Cairns Bird Club (Bird Observers) Andy was a selfless, extremely knowledgable individual who helped many birders, both novice and experienced and he has left an indelible mark on FNQ birding. It was a pleasure to know this incredible man.

Re the condolence message I just sent, the final part, the signature, should read (Rowdy) Brian Lee.

Sorry about that,

He ate all my food, drank all my beer and complained about my best wines, and he's welcome back in my house any day! A good birder, a great mate and sadly missed. Rowdy Brian, Cairns.

Trevor and I are so saddened to hear the very sad news of Andy´s passing.

When we first started birding with Cairns Birders, Andy welcomed us along enthusiastically each weak sharing his labyrinth of birding knowledge and his wonderful lines like "varied trillers where orange underpants" or "the bird can be what ever you want it to be".

May Andy´s enthusiasm and passion for birding live on in all of us who met him. Our deepest condolences to Andy´s family. Vale Andy xx

Condolences from one of his Cairns birding friends. He was a pre-eminent birder and a wonderful guide to many of us. I meet Andy after joint the Cairns Birders group one Sunday morning at Centenary Lakes. We struck a friendship which meant he could then persuade me to join the editorial team for our group´s weekly newsletter. His 30 years in FNQ touched many of our lives. I was never able to make a trip to the South Island of NZ to go birding!

Farewell Andy. One of the first birders I met on moving to Cairns and beginning my birding journey. He was always willing to share his knowledge. I believe I met him at the 4 o´clock
Club along with other Cairns legendaries. I enjoyed your wit and your knowledge. You remain missed. Jan
