I first came to know Allan as he boarded with my late wife and I many years ago. He became like one of the family, Even when he moved to flat with some medical students, he often came round to get some "normal conversation," althouggh as my sister was a nurse and stayed with us at times, mealtime topics were "interesting." He also practiced with his stethoscope on our very first baby. When we moved to Palmerston North, he used to call in occasionally and as he was a Pathologist, and I was a Plant Pathologist, we had a lot in common ; apart from our church affiliations. On the times we went back down to Dunedin, we always if possible made a point of going to Invercargill to see him, and in later life to his lovely home in Wanaka. The last time we were there I helped him assemble his Pipe organ!! We used to hold regular annual phone conversations but these became irregular and ceased. I did not know what had happened to him. Saddened but not surprised to see that he has gone to be with his Maker whom he loved and served. Hugh Neilson

Nadine and I were very sorry to learn that Allan has passed away and extend our sincere sympathy to his family.
We worked in the histology lab at Timaru Hospital where Allan had a locum position while our pathologist was away. Allan was a very friendly person with a lovely sense of humour and a pleasure to work with. We remember him with much fondness.

I enjoyed knowing Allan as a very accommodating and friendly organist and church member at St Andrews, Invercargill. I also knew him in the context of his extended family, a man who lived out his faith as a true Christian gentleman. The Lord's peace and comfort to you all, his whanau.

I have warm memories of Allan who I had the pleasure of working with at the lab at Southland Hospital. Great smile and chuckle, such a kind and caring man. The team had many laughs over the years

My thoughts are with you all at this time. I knew Allan for the years he worked at Kew Hospital and we two along with 3 or so others cut the Cake celebrating 40years service to our hospital. Allan always had a smile and readily helped with questions asked of him in his field and Mine. Kindest Regards Shona Fordyce.Nurse.

My sincere condolences on the loss of Allan. He was a well liked colleague and friend as pathologist at the Southland Hospital laboratory. I have only good memories of the long period of time we worked together there, and share your sadness at his passing.

So sorry to hear of Allan's passing. I spent time with "Dr Pettigrew" in the Southland Hospital laboratory, talking of all things while walking the corridors to see patients. Thoughts and prayers with family and friends.
