Alan WHITESIDE Obituary

WHITESIDE, Alan Thomas - Passed away May 14, 2013 at Nelson Hospital, surrounded by family; aged 73. Born Westport April 12, 1940. Beloved husband and soulmate of Jan. A truly wonderful father and father-in-law of Trina and Glen, Mark and Bek, Aaron and Aimee. Much loved grandad and Poppa of Bianca, Renee, Sophie, Brianna, Drew, Bryn and Gus. Will be missed by his 'best canine friend' Jackson. Dearly loved son of Stanley and Nettie Whiteside (deceased). So very much loved brother and brother-in-law of Heather (deceased), Kevern and Aileen, Edwin and Judy, Janet and Julian. Also a much loved uncle to his nieces and nephews in New Zealand and abroad. A loyal and good friend to many. A Service to celebrate Alan's life will be held at the Tahunanui Convention Centre, 70 Beach Road, Tahunanui, on Saturday afternoon May 18, at 1.00 p.m. Entry via the Tahunanui Beach Holiday Park.

Alan was our next door neighbour at Spicer Place in Linden in 1972/73. Alan was an amazing guy who helped us with our section, and as a youngster taught me many things, especially how to make retaining walls. It is with sadness that I read Alan's death notice. He may have left us but will never be forgotten because he has touched so many of us even though for me it was a long time ago
