We only learned of Alan´s death today and it is with much sadness we missed his passing and his funeral which of course we would have attended had we known.
I worked with and for Alan for 40 years and always found him to be very fair in all aspects. Firm when he needed to be and a man with much integrity.
I recall the day he arrived at simu having just left the bank and he slotted into the culture with consummate ease and that ease stayed with him during his entire working life.
We did catch up with him in Hanmer a few months ago and spent a happy afternoon with he and Marie reminiscing on the past and discussing the future. As for the future he was very positive as only he could be and I value the time we spent with them.
Sometimes we used to discuss our Maori heritage an aspect of which he was very proud as I am and all we can say is that a mighty Totara has fallen.

Ka kite ano.

A life well lived.
I was privileged to be part of Alan's SIMU team in the 1970ies. A natural leader with an astute sense of Kiwi justice and wisdom. Always fair minded and positive. We worked hard and played hard - many happy memories. Let's not forget those piano solos, the knowing wink and twinkle in his eyes. He brought a touch of magic to every situation.
To Marie and Family - my sincere and warm condolences for such a huge loss of his precious influence.
I live in Florida otherwise would be there today. I salute and raise a glass in memory of an exceptional man and the best of times!

I want to extend my condolences to Marie, Janeane, Nathan and family. I worked along side Alan for many years and appreciated his business acumen, good common sense and delightful humour. He was a pleasure to work with and although we had many challenging work experiences he was able to deal with whatever task was put his way with ease. He often spoke of family and was very proud of everything the family achieved. God bless.

Marie and Family. It was so sad to read of Alan's death after a long fight. He was a super guy who always brought wisdom, understanding and technical knowledge to all that he did. It was a real privilege and honour to have worked with Alan for just on 40 years.

Dear Marie, Jeneane, Nathan, and family.

Whilst we mourn the loss of one of the truly great men, we rest easy knowing that Alan is now at peace.

After 65 incredible years in our lives, we can say with pride that Alan was a genuine friend. His nature was such that we would never tell you what to do but seemingly always imparted the knowledge you needed to make your own decisions. He did so with a smile that could warm a room and laughter that brightened every occasion.

We are all the better for having known you, AP. We are going to miss you terribly.
