Rodney Henderson Obituary

Passed away peacefully on Monday, March 13, 2023 at Freeport Hospital at the age of 79. Rod will be missed by so many. He was the beloved husband of Sue and loving father to his girls, Shelley (Lance) Kagel and Kimberly (the late Andy) Fielding. Rod was the cherished grandpa of Olivia Kagel (Colin Rumig), Hayley Kagel (Alan Hermer), Christian Kagel, Eric Fielding, Colin Fielding and great grandpa to James Rumig. He was also the dear brother of Alan (Lorette) Henderson and Jane (Howard) Glunz. Rod worked with the City of Kitchener for over 25 years, first as a Supervisor with the Maintenance of Grand River Transit and later with Public Works. After retirement, Rod was General Manager for the Canadian Fleet Maintenance Seminar. He took pride in everything he did, whether at his job or the projects he happily completed for family, friends and neighbours. Rod was truly able to fix anything - from clocks to cars. Rod was never one to sit still. Over the years, he was an avid marathon runner, SCUBA diver, he raced and toured motorcycles, enjoyed cycling (completed the TD 5 Boro Bike Tour in New York City), and took up the unicycle at the tender age of 71. If he and his loving wife weren't traveling the globe, Rod loved watching his kids, and later grandkids, grow up at our family cottage on Christian Island. Many nights were spent listening to Rod's stories around the campfire. Rod's family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2023. Reception to follow. For those unable to attend, Rod's service may be viewed via livestream at https://www.henrywalser.com/live-streaming. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Kidney Foundation or the Grand River Hospital Foundation - Freeport Palliative Care would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
