Was deputy principle when i was at high school in Timaru in the 80s, very influential man to those that knew him, and will be greatly missed. Fit as a fiddle, as my father said this morning. Condolences to the family from the Dellows.

Dear Hilary and family
I was greatly saddened to hear from Valerie by phone, on Saturday, of Gordon's passing and of his funeral to be held at St John's Church on Tuesday. I am currently working in Auckland and, unfortunately, will not be able to attend although I would very much like to be there to farewell him.
Gordon was a great influence on many people in his capacity of teacher, tramper, mountaineer, Alpine Club stalwart, mountain rescue member, cyclist and good friend.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and mentor to many. A humble man, despite his many notable achievements, who derived much pleasure from the wonders of nature. We are all the richer for having known him and will miss him greatly.
Val and I will also miss him, a sprightly gent on a green bicycle, with a grey ponytail and anti-megpie antennae on his cycling helmet, paddling forcefully up Rosebrook Road and on past our street in Hadlow!
We hope that the fact that so many people share in your loss will help sustain you, to atleast some degree, in your sorrow.
With heartfelt sympathy
