Alexander BRUNT Obituary

BRUNT, Alexander (Sandy):
(Lt. Commander RNZNVR (Fleet Air Arm) DSC, MBE) Died Edith Cavell Lifecare, Christchurch, on Monday, May 21, 2018, aged 99 years and 9 months, just 84 days shy of his 100th birthday. Sandy was a special man, who dedicated most of his life to helping others, both during the war years and after as a volunteer working tirelessly with the Christchurch South Lions Club, the New Zealand Police in setting up the Volunteer Kiosk in the Square, and with the Speak Up Campaign and helping out at his local church. His humour and caring will be missed. Sandy will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Rona, his son Tony, his daughter Jenny (Michael) Pearce and their children Erin Davie, Alixandra (John) Peterka, and David (Deanna) Pearce, and eight great-grandchildren. Our heartfelt thanks also goes to our second family for all their help and support over the years; Andrew (deceased) and Inez Hunter, Sue and Brent Lewis, Andrea and Stephen Van Bohemen, Andrew Hunter and Karen Johnston, and Linda Hunter and James MacKenzie. Sincere thanks to the staff of Edith Cavell who cared for Sandy so well over the last 20 months. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Sumner-Redcliffs Anglican Church to be used for childrens projects, or to your favourite charity. All communications can be made to Tony at [email protected] A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 5 at 2.00pm, at St Andrews Church, Main Road, Redcliffs. All are welcome.

Our condolences to Rona, Jenny, Tony and extended family.
I never had the pleasure of meeting Sandy but have my friend Jenny tell us about his adventures. Jenny and Michael enjoyed their visits with him especially in the latter years.
I'm sure a lot of scotch will be offered up in celebration of his life.
